Appointment FAQs
Please see below answers to frequently asked questions about our ACNE TREATMENTS.
If you are unable to find the answers you are looking for, we encourage you to give us a call and a member of our team will be happy to assist you!
What is the cost?
Working with us is an investment, as we are not a one-stop-shop office. We follow a strict protocol which entails a 3-step process and the cost of treatments will vary depending on the treatments and/or products recommended to you during an in-office or over-the-phone consultation. During your complimentary consultation a staff member or esthetician will discuss with you the best suited treatment to get the results you’re seeking. This may depend on your skin, history of prescriptions, medications, and product usage, as well as your current skin concerns. However, all of our treatments are extraction-based, whether you have acne or not. Give us a call today to determine what’s best for your needs!
How long will the treatment appointment take?
Depending on your recommended treatment with us, your initial appointment is scheduled for about 2 ½ hours to 3 ½ hours, and subsequent appointments can range from 30 minutes to 3 hours, depending on your progress and overall skin goals. When you start to get clearer and there are fewer extractions to do, treatments will gradually take less and less time.
What is going to happen at my first appointment?
- We consult with you regarding your current skin concerns, sensitivities, and skin history in terms of previous products, medications/prescriptions and any prior treatments that you have had, (if any).
- We analyze your acne and help you figure out what is causing your specific condition, which can be based on diet, genetics, environment, hormones, etc.
- We will take preliminary pictures to track your progress at the beginning and end of every treatment.
- We will perform the treatment, which begins with a cleanse and 30 minutes of natural herbal steaming, preparing your skin for extractions. Extractions will consume the majority of your treatment time, as your aesthetician will go pore by pore to remove congestion from your skin. We will end with cooling masques and towels to soothe your skin after treatment.
- You will receive useful information regarding products, diet recommendations, etc.,
- You will receive a skin care routine suited for your acne type, and we will show you how to use the products, both morning and night.
Why do the extractions?
It’s the fastest way to get you clear – we extract the current lesions out and the home care prevents the new ones from forming. It takes up to 90 days for acne to form and reach the surface of your skin, so in the 2-3 months that we are working with you, you will see breakouts. These are just old lesions coming to the surface that we will extract every two to four weeks.
Do the extractions hurt?
Extractions can cause slight discomfort, but the process is tolerable and crucial for treating acne and congestion of the skin. If needed, we provide numbing cream to limit any discomfort during the extraction process.
Do I have to use your products?
If you are being treated as an acne client with us and experience red and inflamed breakouts, yes. This is part of our healing and preventative process. There are too many brands in the marketplace that have pore-clogging and harmful, chemical-based ingredients in them. To ensure clear skin, we recommend using our products alone. Acne is tricky enough to treat – we do not want to take any chances with other potentially toxic or comedogenic products.
How long do my products typically last?
Mineral Freshener, Ionic Spritzer & Cotton Box: Two to three months
Cleanser: One month
Toner: Two months
Masques: Two to three months
Zit-O: Two to three months
Lite n Velvet: Two to three months
Blue Lotion: Two to three months
Do I have to get treatments?
Yes. If you live close enough to our College Park office, it is in your best interest to get acne treatments from us. That is the fastest way to get clear, and also helps us to monitor your home care to get you clear in the safest and fastest way possible.
Do we take insurance?
No, we do not take insurance. However, you can use your Health Spending Account (HSA) at TS Skin Care, if applicable.
How does our system work?
Our 3-step process works by considering the type of acne you have, the type of skin you have and how fast your skin adapts to products. We keep pushing the skin to clear with products that penetrate the pore where acne starts. We don’t push it past its tolerance however, because we don’t want your skin to become dry and irritated. Our products prevent the new acne breakouts from forming; we extract the existing acne breakouts and congestion out. With consistency of treatments, product use, and dietary modifications, your acne will be under control in about 3-4 month.
What if I’m on other prescription products?
We require you to stop your prescription products, two-four weeks before starting on our program. We have found that they make the skin much too sensitive to use our 3-step process. Therefore, we generally do not recommend the use of any of them with our regimen. Quite simply, you would have to choose between our program or the prescription products that you are using if you expect immediately visible results.
Can I combine your regimen with another one that I have been on?
Acne is challenging enough to get under control. In order to eliminate the variables, we require that you use only our products. We don’t want to have to wonder if an outside product is causing a problem.
How long does it typically take to get clear?
If you do your homecare twice a day and come in every two to four weeks for a treatment, you will most likely be clear in about two to three months. Some people might take a little longer depending on the nature of their acne and how closely they follow the recommended homecare and dietary guidelines that they are given.
Am I going to have to use these products forever?
You will need to use products to control your acne or until you outgrow acne; and no one knows when that is. Many people do outgrow acne, but we are unable to predict when, so you may have to use the products for a while to manage your acne, but not forever. We also have several other products for non-acneic skin, which can be used once you’ve graduated to a Non-Acne Client with us; this includes our normal to dry, normal to oily, and anti-aging products.
What is the youngest age that you take clients?
We will take clients at whatever age they are breaking out. Acne does not discriminate – neither do we. However, minors need to be accompanied by an adult whom gives consent to our office in order to treat minors.
Do extractions make my face red? What about if I have a special event coming up? When should I book my appointment?
Our Acne Specialists are highly trained and skilled. The extraction techniques that we use are to help reduce any inflammation and redness on the skin’s surface. However, depending on the severity of your acne, you may leave with some redness, which is totally normal. So, you really need to plan ahead, ensuring that you do not plan on being out in the sun (unless wearing our Day Cream with SPF) or have a special event within a week of getting a treatment.
How long should I wait for a treatment if I have just gotten another treatment from another place of business?
We do not recommend nor suggest that you partake in other treatments that can alter your skin in any way, especially those that use chemicals on the surface of your skin. However, if you so choose to get a peel, microdermabrasion, etc. we suggest that you wait at least a week, preferably two weeks before you come to see us. We don’t want your skin to become too irritated during a treatment or too irritated to use our home care system.
Is there anything that takes the redness away?
After extractions, redness will fade gradually within a couple of hours. Our Blue Lotion healing serum is included in the package to help bring down redness. Depending on the type of acne that you have and your skin’s sensitivity, this may take a bit longer to subside. For both women and men – we have an incredible mineral makeup that covers the red while still looking very natural. Depending on the type of acne that you have, acne usually goes away long before the redness subsides.
Who will I be seeing at my appointment?
You will see one of our Certified Acne Specialist Estheticians. All our specialists are thoroughly trained in the same protocol.
Are doctors on staff?
We do not have any physicians on staff. We are experienced estheticians licensed by the State of Florida, with experience ranging up to 22 years.
How are we different from doctors? We have more time to spend with you than a busy doctor. We can listen to all your skin care concerns. We keep updated with the latest research about acne. We have the best and most effective acne products that do not require a prescription. We have compassionate and empathetic specialists who also have had acne, so we know what you are going through. We give you honest and straightforward answers to all your skin care questions. We keep in close contact with you throughout your process of getting clear; making sure that your home care is working properly, and your skin is responding. We are hands-on with you in working with your skin, your skin type, your acne type and always do extractions in your treatment appointments.
What other skin conditions do you treat?
We mostly treat acne; but we can also treat milia and roascea. We can also recommend products from our natural line that helps eliminate fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and acne scarring, and balancing dryness/oiliness – ask one of the estheticians about which product can best suit your needs.
Do you treat bumps on other areas of the skin?
Yes, we do treat back acne as well! Please note, that this would be treated on a separate appointment. We do not treat any other area of the body other than the face, shoulders, neck, or back.
Do you treat scarring?
It depends on what you mean by scarring. If you have dark spots, then yes, those will be treated along with the acne. If you have pitted scars, then no that is treated by a medical doctor/dermatologist.
What if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
We can still treat you for acne, but first you will have to get a list from your doctor as to what ingredients they want you to avoid.
Why do I have to give my credit card information to book an appointment?
It is standard business practice to hold your appointment with a credit card number. We want to know that you are as serious as we are about helping you achieve clear skin, as all our first-time clients come in for treatments that range from 2 ½ to 3 ½ hours. We are holding this time on a specialist’s schedule to help you. We want to ensure that you understand and agree to our treatment process.
Do you offer any discounts?
No, but we have a referral discount – for every person that you refer to us, we will give you $30 to utilize towards your next treatment or product purchase.
